Broken Ribbon Cable in EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens. Nov 11, 2009. So I've noticed lately that my EF-S 18-55mm IS lens has had trouble focusing, and seems to focus correctly only if it starts out turned to the far right, so I took a look at the inside of the lens and sure enough, the ribbon cable going from the circuitry/camera to the little strip of PIbZw.
